Columbia Sportswear will pay $22,800 as a fine to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for selling mislabeled pesticide-treated clothing. The agency requires that such apparel bear an EPA pesticide registration number, a proper ingredient statement, and a proper storage and disposal statement, and that they carry the statement “It is a violation of Federal Law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling.” The company is cooperating with the government and will relabel the products, which have been given a Stop Sale order by the EPA.
