For Soccer has released its latest “United States of Soccer” report, offering in-depth insights into the growing fandom for football in the US. The report highlights the sport’s surging popularity, showing that over 70 percent of US football fans are under 40, signaling a youthful, dynamic audience.

Football, known as soccer in the US, attracts diverse and engaged fans. The report reveals that fandom extends beyond mere viewership, with nearly half of the respondents also participating in the sport. This trend aligns with the growing demand for US leagues, such as Major League Soccer (MLS), and international tournaments, like the FIFA World Cup.

Another key finding is the sport’s appeal to a multicultural audience. US football fans come from various ethnic backgrounds, further enhancing its reach and influence. Increased media coverage, accessible streaming platforms, and the growing success of American football players abroad bolster this growth.

The report’s data suggests that brands and businesses looking to tap into a passionate, young, and diverse market should consider leveraging this growing interest in football in the US.

Key findings from the report include:

  • New Arrivals, respondents who indicated having been football fans for five or fewer years, have grown by 57 percent since last year’s report

  • More than 45 percent of New Arrivals are women

  • Those who have become fans within the last year is up 400 percent year-over-year

  • Among Casual Fans, MLS and NWSL are the two most-beloved leagues
