Asics Corp. has announced that its venture capital subsidiary, Asics Venture Corp., has made an investment in Bisu, a start-up that is developing a “home health lab.” Called “Bisu Body Coach,” the lab gives personalized nutrition and lifestyle advice by testing urine and saliva at home. Synchronizing with its smartphone-based app, it can read disposable microfluidic test strips and make customized suggestions based on the user’s goals, test results and data from wearable devices. The app is currently in a beta test phase. Bisu was founded in 2015 and is based in Tokyo. It has four employees, according to Crunchbase. Asics’ investment was probably part of a $3.2 million fund-raising round made on Oct. 7 by four investors, including 15th Rock Ventures. The company has collected $4.2 million from seven investors so far. Bisu was the winner of a Start-Up Challenge organized by the U.S. sporting goods industry association, SFIA. Asics said it hopes to leverage its partnership with Bisu to explore ways in which its technology could be used to enhance personal health as well as athletic performance so as to produce “healthy and fulfilled minds.”
