Biotechnology company MycoWorks has begun production at its 12600-sqm factory in Union, South Carolina, making it the world’s first large-scale leather alternatives factory. The facility is capable of producing large quantities of the alternative leather material produced with Fine Mycelium technology. MycoWorks currently counts Hermès and General Motors among its customers and competes with Bolt Threads’ Mylo, which is used by Adidas and Lululemon. The new facility was made possible by a $125 million Series C financing round in 2021, and construction began last year.
