The European Tour and the PGA Tour have announced a “Strategic Alliance” for golf competitions, covering tournament scheduling, prize funding, media rights and commercial matters. The PGA Tour will be acquiring a minority stake in the European Tour’s media production company, European Tour Productions, and the PGA Tour’s commissioner, Jay Monahan, will be joining the European Tour’s board of directors. According to Keith Pelley, the European Tour’s chief executive, the alliance formalizes a relationship that has been developing “between the tours in recent years” and “crystalised” earlier this year when he and Monahan took part in the working group, consisting of the four Majors and the LPGA, that hammered out a golfing calendar for the unusual year of 2020.
