Responders searching for a missing private plane carrying five German passengers off the coast of Costa Rica found two dead bodies in the sea, the Süddeutsche Zeitung reported on Oct. 23, citing the Ministry of Public Security. Earlier, about 28 kilometers from the Limón airport, parts of the fuselage, seats and several pieces of luggage had already been discovered. Local authorities confirmed that Rainer Schaller, founder and CEO of the German RSG Group, which includes the McFit and Gold’s Gym chains of fitness studios, among several other brands, was on board the plane with his girlfriend and her two children. According to the Civil Aviation Authority, a total of six people were on board. The Coast Guard said no one could have survived the crash. The plane had gone missing two days earlier on its flight from Mexico to Costa Rica.
