Bic Sport, the leading French surf hardware brand, will soon disappear after more than 40 years. The brand will be renamed Tahe, following its acquisition two years ago by Tahe Outdoors. Bic Sport branded products will not be available after the end of 2020, or earlier if stocks are exhausted before then. Bic Sport started in 1979 as a windsurf manufacturer, and later expanded to surf, kayak and stand-up paddling (SUP). The products, made in the French factory in Vannes, were sold in over 90 countries. According to reports in the French newspaper Ouest France, while the brand name changes, the names of its flagship products – like Borneo and Bilbao for kayaks and Performer for SUP, among others - will remain the same. The products will be manufactured in the Tahe Outdoors France (ex Bic Sport) factory in Vannes and Tahe Outdoors facility in Tallinn, Estonia, the report indicates. Tahe and Bic Sport were bought in 2018 by an equity investment group, KJK Management, which subsequently acquired Elan, forming the new KJK Sports group.
