Therabody has announced the acquisition of PowerDot, a “smart muscle stimulator” that is said to temporarily relieve muscle pain. The device uses electrical stimulation to cause muscles to contract and release. The increased blood flow helps improve muscular strength and endurance, while temporarily relieving and managing pain. PowerDot’s proprietary Smart Recovery AI-based technology allows for the compact simulator to understand the user’s activity and connects to a mobile app that offers customized programs based on the user’s specific pain and recovery needs, including recommended intensity settings and pad placement. The device is meant to allow for personalized electrical stimulation at-home, in the gym, or on-the-go, Therabody explained. The acquisiton of PowerDot is intended to strengthen Therabody’s commitment to democratize medical technology that has typically only been available to medical professionals and elite athletes, the company said.
