The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) have commissioned a new technical study to help identify more sustainable solutions for event branding and signage. The guide, titled “Environmental impact evaluation of branding and signage solutions for events”, explores the branding and signage materials used at events such as flags, banners or information boards, and identifies principles for improving their design and procurement decisions. While branding and signage are essential to engage participants at sporting events, these materials can also be a major source of waste. The guide, produced by the environmental experts of Anthesis, targets especially event organizers and sustainability professionals. The guide will be updated on a regular basis to reflect the evolving needs of stakeholders and market developments, the IOC said.
