Decathlon France is launching the Domyos Woodbike, an exercycle built around a frame made from French beech wood. The unconventional stationary bicycle is meant to combine sustainability, technical features and design, as its wooden structure easily blends in with any interior. The solid beech in the Domyos Woodbike comes from Marotte, a supplier of wooden decorative articles based in the Jura region of France. The wood is processed on site. Solid beech offers strength and stability equivalent to that of a metal structure, claims Decathlon. The five pieces of the wooden frame, namely 47 percent of the bicycle, are made in France. Decathlon has committed to plant ten trees for each tree used in the manufacture of a Domyos Woodbike, in partnership with Reforest’Action. Domyos is Decathlon’s private label for fitness products. The new Domyos Woodbike will be retailed at a relatively accessible price of €399.
