Decathlon is broadening its focus on sustainability and circularity by introducing “circular spaces” in 70 stores across Spain, according to Palco23. These dedicated areas, exceeding 100 square meters each, are designed to promote repair, rental, and secondhand sports equipment sales, underscoring the brand’s commitment to accessibility and environmental responsibility.
The initiative allows customers to sell gently used sports items, such as cycling gear, fitness equipment, camping essentials and winter sports products. Items in good condition can be resold, fostering a culture of reuse and reducing waste. The program is operational nationwide in all Spanish Decathlon stores. Decathlon launched a new payment method for repurchasing items in October, complementing its existing gift card option with direct bank transfers.
At the close of 2023, Decathlon operated 1,749 stores across 78 countries, generating €15.6 billion in revenue – marking a 1.3 percent year-over-year growth. The company reported a net profit of €931 million, up 0.8 percent from 2022.
