Ski company Elan has üublished its efforts in the area of sustainability. As the company still manufactures all its skis at its headquarters in Begunje, Slovenia, with all production phases conducted vertically, the company claims to be able to control and tweak wherever necessary. Since earlier this year, the energy for the whole production has been generated with renewable energy sources (RES), reducing the annual GHG emissions by 498 tons. Twelve percent of the energy is solar-powered, and the share is to be increased over the coming years.
Until 2030, Elan plans to:
• Improve energy efficiency and consequently reduce greenhouse gas emissions in all processes
• Reduce volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions
• Optimize the sustainability of the supply chain
• Increase the recycled content of products and increase the recovery rate of materials used in the manufacture of products
• Increase the proportion of recycled waste
• Ensure a safer, healthier working environment.
To date, 99 percent of the raw materials used to make Elan skis are sourced from Europe and selected to the highest standards. According to the company information, 68 percent of all materials are produced within a 400-kilometer radius of the company’s headquarters, and 18 percent are sourced directly from Slovenia.
