Nike will stop making any product with kangaroo skins this year, the company said in a statement on March 13. The announcement comes on the heels of rival firm Puma saying it will replace “k-leather” in football boots with a synthetic vegan alternative, meaningfully called “K-better,” as we reported earlier this month. The controversial practice of killing kangaroos for commercial purposes has long drawn anger from animal rights activists worldwide. Nike will debut a new line of its Tiempo football boots, dubbed the Tiempo Legend Elite, which uses a “proprietary synthetic upper” instead of kangaroo leather.
