Puma has ranked first on decarbonization strategies in a report by fashion activism movement Fashion Revolution, titled “What Fuels Fashion?” The report is a special edition of the Global Fashion Transparency Index, ranking 250 of the world’s largest fashion brands on decarbonization and related disclosure and examines what companies in the fashion industry are doing to cut greenhouse gas emissions.
What Fuels Fashion? assessed what brands publicly self-disclose about their decarbonization efforts in their own supply chain and operations. Fashion Revolution awarded scores across five key themes: accountability, decarbonization, energy procurement, financing decarbonization, and just transition and advocacy. Puma received an overall score of 75 percent, making it the company with the highest overall score. Meanwhile, the report warns that the fashion industry as a whole should do more to achieve climate targets and reduce emissions.
In 2023, Puma set itself new greenhouse gas reduction targets after the company had reached its previous goals seven years ahead of schedule. By 2030, Puma seeks to cut its absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 90 percent from a 2017 baseline year. The company also committed to reducing absolute Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions from its supply chain and logistics by 33 percent compared to 2017.
