Safilo Group has joined The Fashion Pact, a global sustainability coalition of companies in the fashion and textile industry, the company announced earlier this week. According to its website presentation, The Fashion Pact was launched at the G7 Summit in Biarritz, France, in 2019 as a mission given to Kering chairman and CEO François-Henri Pinault by the French president, Emmanuel Macron. Over sixty international companies in the ready-to-wear, sport, lifestyle and luxury segments have joined the initiative, including Adidas, Chanel, Gap, Farftech, Hermes, Kering, Lacoste, Nike, Prada, and Puma, among others. Safilo Group is the first pure eyewear player to join the organization.
The Fashion Pact says it represents one-third of the fashion industry and its members focus on three main environmental goals: stopping global warming, restoring biodiversity and protecting the oceans. The coalition currently lists two initial commitments on its website: the elimination of unnecessary and harmful plastic in B2C packaging by 2025 and B2B packaging by 2010, and the assurance that 50 percent of all plastic packaging will be 100 percent recycled content in B2C by 2025 and in B2B by 2030.
