Snowsports Industries America (SIA), the trade association for the U.S. winter outdoor industry, and the Surf Industry Members Association (SIMA), the official trade association for the surf industry, have announced a partnership on sustainability and climate action in the action sports industry. The upcoming Snow and Surf Industry Sustainability Sessions are designed to provide SIA and SIMA members with important educational programs to bridge the gap in the outdoor community between current expertise and the actual actions needed to reduce emissions and effectively address climate change.
The Snow and Surf Industry Sustainability Sessions is a six-month guided online series for SIA members that provides participants with the knowledge and specific tools they need to strengthen their company’s leadership on our industry’s most pressing environmental issues. The program will run weekly from March 9 to June 8, 2023, and is open to all SIA members. The cost of the program is $1,200 per person and is limited to a total of 20 seats. The sessions will allow participating SIA and SIMA members to take a fresh look at the depth of the sustainability and climate change conversation, promote sustainable practices among members and across the industry, advocate for policy changes to support sustainability efforts, and build a solid foundation in the issues and concepts that have become critical components of manufacturing, marketing and sales.
The program is led by Derek Sabori, former VP of sustainability at Volcom. Brands such as New Balance, Volcom, Billabong, RVCA, Quiksilver, Zumiez and Blue Tomato have already engaged Sabori to train their teams on the fundamentals of sustainability and climate change as they impact winter outdoors.
SIA and SIMA will also work together to educate U.S. consumers on the importance of sustainability and how their choices impact the environment.
