Decathlon has started building a new logistics center in Dortmund, which should cover about 32,000 square meters and employ up to 700 people. The group already has a warehouse of roughly the same size and 550 employees in Schwetzingen, near Mannheim, but the new facility is to cover stores in the north of the country and online business, as Decathlon is continuing to expand in Germany. It currently has 33 German stores and intends to open at least two more, in Hamburg and Berlin, before the end of the year. Decathlon moved into the German market in 1996 and planning rules have long hampered its development in Germany, but it has recently been gaining more traction by finding solutions with regional authorities.
