Décathlon is adjusting its retail concept in the German market with a new store to be opened next year in Mannheim. Contrary to its usual approach, the French chain will open the store in the city's downtown area, not too far from Engelhorn Sports, the local retail hero, which has just finished revamping its online shop. The gross surface of 4,500 square meters will occupy a building called Prinz Medienhaus, which has been abandoned for some four years. Décathlon already runs an out-of-town store in nearby Ludwigshafen. The Mannheim venture will be the 16th opening in Germany after a new door opens this month in the city of Dessau.
