Decathlon is continuing its foray into Southeast Asian markets with the opening of a store in Singapore. After five openings in Thailand in the last few months, the French retailer is opening a store of about 3,000 square meters in Bedok and is planning a second opening in Singapore in June. Decathlon intends to open about 20 stores in the country, although it didn't provide indications of the timeframe. Decathlon has been operating online retail in Singapore since 2013. Football, water sports, diving and urban mobility are apparently most popular among Singaporeans, who have strong infrastructure for sports at their disposal. The French retailer has a South East Asia regional office in Singapore, led by Yves Claude, who was the group's chief executive until the start of last year. Decathlon also has a logistical platform in Singapore, to deliver online orders and to supply stores in other countries around the region.
