Decathlon is expanding its store at the Alexanderplatz in Berlin by increasing the sales surface from 6,000 to 8,500 sqm. New sports categories like rugby, fun wheels, tennis for kids and yoga for men, have been added to the existing product offer. The number of employees has been increased by 20 percent to a total of 100. Decathlon has installed 27 checkout counters in the expanded Berlin store. Decathlon has also announced that it will open another store in the Eiche shopping center East of Berlin, adding up to a total of four stores in the German capital. Decathlon has currently 38 stores with 2,300 employees in Germany. Reportedly, however, the municipality of another German city, Münster, has rejected for the second time a Decathlon store within the city limits.
