Décathlon is reportedly planning to open four additional stores in Romania by next spring, complementing the six units that it already has in the country, with the goal of forming a network of 20 stores in due time. With four new stores launched in the course of last year, according to local reports, Décathlon's retail operations reached sales of €18.2 million last year, while its Romanian production company, which works for the whole group, generated revenues of €25.6 million. The Romanian Intersport operation, which is indirectly controlled by Fourlis Group in Greece, made a marginally higher indicated turnover of around €19.8 million, up by 12 percent from 2009. Intersport will be adding three new stores this year, helping it to raise its sales by a further 15 percent, but Décathlon is likely to overake it as the leading player in the national sporting goods market. Hervis Sport came third in 2010 with a 30 percent rise in its turnover of €13.1 million, according to the reports.
