Décathlon is said to be opening its 13th German store in Mainz soon with the interesting adjustment of strategy that the store should be located right downtown, next to the central railway station. Reportedly, the French chain is investing €40 million in a new distribution center in Schwetzingen, a town between the cities of Mannheim and Heidelberg, to supply its German stores, as the company has reached decent economies of scale in the country. The beginning of construction is scheduled for spring 2012. Currently, the German stores are supplied from Mulhouse, France, and Willebroek, Belgium.
