Five years after the opening of the first Austrian store in the SCS Park in Vösendorf, the fifth Decathlon location is to follow on Sept. 29. Customers will find equipment and clothing for more than 70 sports on nearly 2,000 sqm at the 1100 Columbus shopping center in Vienna. The international sporting goods manufacturer and retailer, headquartered in France, aims to soon be represented in all of Austria’s provinces. Further stores in Linz, Salzburg and Innsbruck are already being planned.
Under the lead of Gábor Pósfai, Decathlon opened its first location in Austria in August 2018. With stores in Vösendorf (Lower Austria), Vienna Stadlau, Klagenfurt and Seiersberg-Pirka (near Graz), the company has so far been quite successful in Austria: Sales growth from January to August 2023 was over 31 percent year-on-year. “All stores are achieving sales growth of at least 17 percent, which shows a generally very positive increase,” said Pósfai, Managing Director of Decathlon Austria. With the expansion of the Austrian locations, the retailer expects further sales increases.
