The largest Decathlon store in Germany is opening in November in Weiterstadt, covering 8,000 square meters and employing 80 people. In addition to the classic sales area for more than 100 sports segments and 85 private labels, there will also be numerous test areas, a sports park and an exhibition zone. The “strategic” sports of cycling, mountaineering and fitness will be presented on a large scale, according to the company, as is a specially labelled Ecodesign product line, which uses sustainable raw materials or sustainable production methods. By 2026, only Ecodesign products are to be offered in the company’s stores. Besides Click & Collect and other services, a new feature is the offer of second-hand products, which will be sold at a low price in the store. The complex will draw 100 percent of its electricity from renewable energies. The attractiveness of Weiterstadt lies in its location directly on the freeway between Darmstadt and Frankfurt with a catchment area of around 700,000 inhabitants. The new branch is the seventh in the state of Hesse and the 87th in Germany.
