We deeply regret the death on Sept. 5 of Xavier Rivoire, who has been in charge of international communication for Decathlon in the past few years as Decathlon United Media Leader. He was 53 years old. The cause of his death has been described as having been “brutal.” Rivoire joined Decathlon for the first time in 2012 as media and partnerships manager, after working for the BBC and the leading French sports journal, L’Equipe, notably as its London correspondent. He left Decathlon in 2018 to serve as communications director for the French National Sport and Olympic Committee, but returned to the leading sports retailing group in January 2019. He was an endearing and cultivated gentleman with a special twist in communicating his enthusiasm for sports and his company.
