Descente registered a sales increase of 4.3 percent to 21.6 billion yen (€171.3m-$230.8m) for the fiscal third quarter ended Dec. 31, as compared to the same quarter a year ago. The gross margin improved by 1.8 percentage points to 46.8 percent of sales for the quarter, compared with 45.0 percent. Selling, general and administrative expenses grew by 320 basis points to 42.2 percent of sales, impacting the net profit, which went down by 9.9 percent to ¥786 million (€6.2m-$8.4m) in the quarter. The Japanese company produces and distributes, in addition to its own brand, a wide range of global apparel brands for golf, cycling, outdoor, racquet, snow sports and volleyball under license for Asian markets including Japan, China, Hong Kong and Korea. Licensed brands include Marmot, Umbro, Cutter & Buck, Le Coq Sportif and Munsingwear.
