Descente reports a sales increase of 11.3 percent to ¥16.47 billion (€149.4m-$215.0m) for its first quarter, ended on June 30. The gross margin slipped to 47.6 percent from 48.0 percent, but a cut in operating expenses helped the company reduce its operating losses sharply to ¥167 million (€1.5m-$2.2m) from ¥597 million in the year-ago period. An income tax benefit allowed Descente to turn around to a small net profit of ¥14 million (€127,000-$183,000), against a net loss of ¥257 million in the year-ago period.
