Despite unseasonably warm temperatures and a lack of snow in Norway's most populous regions, sales of alpine skis, cross-country skis and related accessories jumped sharply in the last quarter of 2013. According to statistics compiled by Sportsbransjen, the Norwegian sporting goods industry association, 15 percent more skis, ski poles and ski boots were sold in October, November and December of 2013 than the same period last year. For the month of December, the country's leading sporting goods retailer, Gresvig, reported a 10 percent increase in ski-related sales, while XXL reported a 26 percent increase in the segment and an overall sales increase of 20 percent when compared with the same month last year. Sportsbransjen has estimated total sales of sporting goods grew in Norway by three to four percent last year. In 2012, they had risen by 2.3 percent to total of NOK 11.7 billion (€1.4bn-$1.9bn).
