Sales of sporting goods in Spain (sell-out) grew by 11 percent in 2021 compared to 2020 and reached €8.58 million, according to a report elaborated by Sportpanel for the Spanish trade association Afydad. The increase was primarily driven by the bicycle sector, which registered a 10.8 percent increase versus 2020 and accounted for 33.6 percent of retail sales in 2021, more than running and football. Sell-in also rose double-digit (+18.2 percent). Imports of sports products in 2021 increased by 11.2 percent to €1.9 million. Meanwhile, exports fell slightly (-0.75 percent) to €1.0 million. The number of sporting goods shops decreased from 8,853 in 2020 to 8,656 as of Jan. 1, 2022.
