Burton has announced a new online rental program for snowboards, boots, bindings and outerwear in the continental U.S. The rental model is aimed at short-term rentals, with gear shipped directly to the customers. Burton promises professionally cleaned and like-new condition equipment, shipped with the tools and hardware needed to set it up. Upon completion of the rental period, customers can reuse the original shipping box and a free shipping label to drop returns off at any authorized UPS location. The initial rental line includes adult-sized equipment, however, there are plans to expand the rental offering in future seasons.

“Renting instead of owning helps decouple profit from manufacturing new products, which is another step towards reducing our collective impact on the planet,” said Elysa Walk, Burton’s chief business officer. She added: “Burton is actively pursuing an integrated program to re-sell retired rental gear, pushing the brand towards extended product lifespans and circular business models.”

The scheme is powered on the backend by Arrive, a technology company that powers resale and rental channels for brands.
