eBay UK has launched the Carbon Academy, an interactive and self-paced learning program developed in partnership with ClimatePartner. The tool is designed to help sellers engage in climate action while taking advantage of opportunities that arise from environmentally conscious behavior.

Through the Carbon Academy, eBay UK sellers can learn the following:

  • Understand the purpose and design of a climate strategy for businesses
  • Measure and manage their carbon footprint
  • Identify quick wins and key challenges in reducing carbon emissions
  • Implement the principles of the circular economy in their business
  • Strategically communicate a company’s climate action plans

Carbon Academy graduates not only make a potential contribution to protecting the planet but also benefit in many ways from their own efforts. For example, by adopting sustainable practices, small businesses can achieve long-term savings by reducing their energy, water and waste costs. In addition, they can expand their customer base as they become increasingly environmentally conscious and prefer to support businesses that prioritize sustainability. Or sellers can tap into new revenue streams through recommerce.

While Carbon Academy programs are free, ClimatePartner’s carbon assessment costs £395 (€454) per assessment. The organization analyzes the vendor’s carbon footprint data and provides recommendations on how to reduce it.

Sellers can decide for themselves which area of their business or products they would like to have assessed. eBay UK’s discounted rates for the assessment can only be claimed after successful participation in the Carbon Academy.
