Eckhard Cordes has unexpectedly decided to leave as chief executive of Metro Group in the next year, feeling that there was no longer trust between him and the rest of the group's management. Retracting a previous statement, one month ago Metro's major shareholder, Franz Haniel & Cie., supported the extension of Cordes' contract, which was set to expire on Oct. 31, 2012. After the announcement of Cordes' departure, Jürgen Kluge has given up the chairmanship of Metro's supervisory board, but he plans to continue to run Haniel's supervisory board.
