Emerald Expositions, which owns Outdoor Retailer, Interbike and many other trade shows, has completed the acquisition of the SIA Snow Show from the Snow Sports Industries Association (SIA) of the U.S., reportedly for $16.7 million, following approval by the SIA's board of directors. The takeover paves the way for a merger of the two events during the winter season and the migration of Outdoor Retailer to Denver, where the SIA Show is already held, with a commitment to stay there through 2030. The two shows will likely be held concurrently in Denver's Colorado Convention Center as of next Jan. 25-28 on 565,000 square feet of exhibition space under the name “Outdoor Retailer + Snow Show,” but this has yet to be confirmed. Industry officials had pleaded for such a combination for more than 15 years, as several companies have been showing their products at both fairs. The SIA will still contol the On-Snow Demo and its Industry + Intelligence workshop. Emerald has yet to make a final decision within a month about alternative venues for the future winter and summer editions of OR. Chicago, Indianapolis, Las Vegas, Minneapolis and Portland have also submitted bids, but Denver seems to be now firmly in pole position to be the host.
