Ernst Albert Hans Holzapfel, who served as president of the German sporting goods industry federation (BSI) from 1991 to 2007, passed away on June 23 at the age of 79. While running the family company, Friedola, in its fourth generation, Holzapfel occupied other honorary posts including the chairmanship of the German equestrian industry federation and the vice presidency of Fesi, the federation of the European sporting goods industry. Holzapfel took the helm of BSI after the death of his predecessor, Armin Dassler, president of Puma. Désirée Darin-Holzapfel took over in 2007 from her father, who was made honorary president the following year.
