Led by Portugal’s minister of state for the economy and digital transformation, Pedro Siza Vieira, Carbon Team’s new production facilities were officially inaugurated on July 9 in Camoia, in the Portuguese municipality of Vouzela. Carbon Team is the first European automated carbon bicycle frame factory outside Asia. Hard-tail monocoque carbon frames started shipping as early as in the first quarter of 2021. Full-suspension carbon frames are expected to follow soon.
Carbon Team was established by a five-year-old Portuguese aluminum frame manufacturer, Triangle’s Cycling Equipments, in combination with a German forge for bicycle carbon frames and parts, All Ahead Composites, as a technology partner and Taiwan’s Art Collection Corporation as a design partner.
The initial investment for Carbon Team was €8.4 million. Construction of the 9,000-square-meter factory began in the fourth quarter of 2019 and was completed late last year. According to the company, the facility is expected to create 120 direct jobs. Thanks to a high level of technological integration and automation, production capacity is expected to increase to 25,000 carbon frame units per year by 2024.
