Led by Portugal’s minister of state for the economy and digital transformation, Pedro Siza Vieira, Carbon Team’s new production facilities were officially inaugurated on July 9 in Camoia, in the Portuguese municipality of Vouzela. Carbon Team is the first European automated carbon bicycle frame factory outside Asia. Hard-tail monocoque carbon frames started shipping as early as in the first quarter of 2021. Full-suspension carbon frames are expected to follow soon.

Carbon Team was established by a five-year-old Portuguese aluminum frame manufacturer, Triangle’s Cycling Equipments, in combination with a German forge for bicycle carbon frames and parts, All Ahead Composites, as a technology partner and Taiwan’s Art Collection Corporation as a design partner.

The initial investment for Carbon Team was €8.4 million. Construction of the 9,000-square-meter factory began in the fourth quarter of 2019 and was completed late last year. According to the company, the facility is expected to create 120 direct jobs. Thanks to a high level of technological integration and automation, production capacity is expected to increase to 25,000 carbon frame units per year by 2024. The company’ plans to expand the production area by a further 7,000 square meters in the medium term..
