The Invictus Games Foundation has announced that the host city of the Invictus Games 2027 will be Birmingham, UK. After initial interest from six cities, the Foundation’s Board of Trustees had previously shortlisted Birmingham and Washington DC as the two final cities in the running for hosting the eighth edition of the event. It will be the first time the event has come to the UK since the inaugural tournament in London in 2014. The event will be staged at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre (NEC). Pickleball, laser run and e-sports are expected to feature in the event for the first time in 2027.
The Invictus Games is an international multi-sport event in which injured soldiers from around the world compete in a range of sports. Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, created the event upon returning from deployment in Afghanistan. It is currently staged every two years.
The upcoming edition of the Invictus Games will take place in Vancouver and Whistler in February 2025, featuring winter sports for the first time. The event is reportedly expected to attract 550 competitors from up to 25 nations. After the inaugural edition in London in 2014, the Invictus Games previously traveled to Orlando (2016), Toronto (2017), Sydney (2018), The Hague (2022, postponed from 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic), and Düsseldorf (2023).
