Executing on its omni-channel strategy, Decathlon has inaugurated two-hour home delivery for online orders in Spain. The initiative took shape in early 2019 and was tested with good results in Madrid, Valencia, Vigo and Tenerife. The French sporting goods retailer has now set up permanent systems in Madrid, Barcelona, Tarragona, Girona, Zaragoza, Seville, Lleida, Valencia, Valladolid, Vigo, Mallorca, Tenerife and Gran Canaria. Later this month, similar systems will be up and running in Alicante, Castellón, Murcia, Cartagena, Bilbao, San Sebastián and Málaga as well. The price of the service starts at €6.99, and customers may select any of four daily delivery windows, Monday through Friday. In Spain, Decathlon also offers other options, such as “click and pick up,” where online orders are prepared for in-store pick-up within an hour at no charge; “comfort delivery,” for large items; and delivery with assembly, for which Decathlon will dispatch an employee to the customer's house. Decathlon delivers to about 3,000 pick-up points in Spanish city centers. We could not determine whether similar initiatives are being taken by Decathlon in other countries, but the Spanish experience may well serve as a model that can be replicated elsewhere.
