José Maria Barcos Martínez, 67, is yielding control of the company he founded 40 years ago, BM Sportech, which still is a major distributor of sporting goods in Spain. His successor as CEO is a 21-year veteran of the company, Alberto Mastral, who will be joining a new executive board alongside Nestor Pardo (a 16-year veteran) and Barcos Martínez’ two sons, Guillermo and Hugo Barcos. Each board member will have charge of a business unit. BM Sportech’s revenues reached €58.3 million in the financial year ended last July 31. The company started in 1982 under a different name, Kastmar, with the distribution of Kästle, Marker and Trappeur. Today, its portfolio includes the brands of the Scott Sports and Tecnica groups as well as such labels as K-Swiss, Kari Traa, Kjus, Mammut, Outdoor Research, Prince and X-Bionic. All told, BM distributes 23 brands in a broad variety of sports. Based on Zaragoza, it has a distribution center of 12,000 square meters.
