The Reef brand of beach sandals – founded in Argentina and run out of Southern California – has hired John Eades to be its new senior director of product. This marks a return to the company for Eades, who in 2003, at the start of his career, was hired to be Reef’s design manager by the founders themselves, Santiago and Fernando Aguerre. Eades departed, as director of product, in 2009. In the interim he co-founded Vere Sandal Company, serving as its CEO, and had a factory set up in the U.S. to manufacture sustainable sandals. His next and only other stop, eight years later, was Roxy, where he served as head of footwear product. Reef, for its part, changed ownership several times. It was acquired in 2005 by VF Corp., which then sold the brand to The Rockport Group in 2018.
