Strava has announced the appointment of Michael Martin as the company’s new Chief Executive Officer. Martin will also join Strava’s Board of Directors when he takes office on Jan. 2, 2024. The news comes after Michael Horvath, who co-founded Strava 15 years ago with Mark Gainey, announced that he would step down once the company found the right new leader to take Strava into the next era of growth.
Martin currently serves as General Manager of YouTube Shopping, where he focuses on helping creators build and diversify their businesses through commerce. YouTube has been part of Google since 2006.
A seasoned technology, media and retail executive, Martin has extensive experience leading product, design, engineering, marketing and business teams for several well-known consumer and technology brands. During his time at Nike (2016-2022), Martin was the first product leader responsible for the company’s connected fitness portfolio: Nike Run Club, Nike Training Club, Nike Adapt and the Apple Watch Nike+.
In recent years, Strava’s global community has grown from 50 million to over 120 million, the team has grown to over 400 employees worldwide, and the company has turned a profit every year.
