After offering sports products for fitness, running, cycling, winter sports and more, Lidl has now launched a comprehensive range of clothing and accessories for amateur golfers in many of its stores in several European countries: France, Germany, the U.K., Ireland, the Netherlands, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Spain, Poland and Slovakia. They are also available online at Lidl’s web shops in Germany, the Czech Republic, Spain, Poland, Slovakia, Belgium and Netherlands.
The products, which go under Lidl’s own brand Crivit, became available on Thurday, July 22 at 250 stores in France out of the 1,600 that Lidl operates in the country. They were already launched on July 5 in all the Lidl stores in Germany and on its national web shop, where it has also been offering products for handball lately.
The new product line comprises polo shirts, gloves, shoes, balls, T-shirts, bags, trolleys and even a laser rangefinder. It does not include golf clubs, though, possibly because their high degree of technicity. The prices are in a low and affordable range, in line with the target and philosophy of the international budget supermarket chain. For example, a pair of golf shoes is offered for €22, a trolley for €89.99 and golf nag for e119.
To develop its new golf range, Lidl collaborated with Sarina Schmidt, the 22-year-old German golf professional who competes in the Ladies European Tour. With 418,741 registered players (2019), golf is the 7th most popular sport in France but is often regarded as an “elitist” sport, an image that Lidl would like to contribute to change. Golf is more popular in Germany, for example.
Lidl has been selling golf equipment and apparel in the much bigger U.S. market since 2018.
Earlier this year, Lidl caused a stir by offering some Nike branded products on its German and Spanish internet marketplaces. The launch followed the succsseful sale of a range of cheap and colorful Lidl branded sneakers, rubber boots and coordinated streetwear last summer.
Founded in Germany in 1930, Lidl has more than 10,000 stores around the world.
