Experts from several companies that are members of the European Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry (Fesi), joined experienced investigators and enforcement officers from across the 28 member countries of the European Union, the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), the World Customs Organization (WCO) and Brazil's National Council on Combating Piracy at a conference in Alicante on March 26-28. Supported by Fesi, the event was organized by the the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM), the European Observatory on Infringements of Intellectual Property and Europol to help the fight against counterfeiting in sporting goods ahead of the Fifa World Cup in Brazil. The event in Alicante, which is the venue of the European Trademark Office, followed a similar event organized by Fesi in São Paulo on March 19-21 in collaboration with the the Brazilian Government, the EU, the WCO and the Federation Internationale de Football Association (Fifa). Members of the customs services from seven Latin American countries – Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Peru, Chile, Paraguay and Panama - participated in the conference.
