Effective Oct. 1, 2022, retailers will no longer be able to host new or planned live shopping events on Facebook, Meta announced in a blog post. Facebook Live can still be used to broadcast live events, but it will not be possible to create product playlists or tag products in Facebook Live videos. Considering that consumers’ viewing habits are shifting to short-form video, Facebook is shifting its focus to Reels and is inviting those who want to reach and engage people through video to try experimenting with Reels and Reels ads on Facebook and Instagram. Facebook Live shopping was first rolled out in 2018 to give brands and creators an interactive way to sell items and connect with viewers.
