According to French sports daily L’Equipe, FIFA is considering taking over the Stade de France after the football governing body’s president, Gianni Infantino, discussed the matter with France’s president Emmanuel Macron during a meeting in Paris last month, the report says. FIFA has, however, denied its interest in purchasing the stadium, as L’Equipe also explained.

The Stade de France, which has a capacity of over 80,000 seats, is set to host athletics and rugby sevens competitions, as well as the closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics. The France national football team and France rugby union team for international competitions use the venue. The French government currently owns the Stade de France, worth an estimated €600 million.
