Figures for the sale of sporting goods in Sweden presented by HUI Research show that January was one of the worst months in recent history. While retail sales as a whole increased by 2.6 percent in the country, sales of sporting goods fell by 10.6 percent as compared to the same month of 2016, when they jumped by 15 percent. The second-worst month was December 2013 when Swedish sporting goods sales fell by 7.6 percent. The reasons for the drop are being debated throughout the industry, but the warm winter was definitely a major factor. High consumption during the Black Friday promotion, which resulted in a 14.6 percent sales increase for November 2016, may also have been a cause.
