Fila has signed a deal that has the tennis player Anna Chakvetadze endorsing its products. Chakvetadze, 21 and ranked 18th at the end of 2008 by the WTA, will wear Fila’s Baseline Apparel Collection and Alfa shoe at the Australian Open. In addition, the company is designing a collection of men’s apparel and footwear with the tennis player James Blake, who also endorses the brand. The as-yet-unnamed line is said to feature the Italian brand’s heritage with a contemporary twist. It is the beginning of a long-term licensing business for Blake, who previously endorsed Nike. The new collection will be officially launched in spring 2010, featuring tennis, golf, fitness and lifestyle products. Blake will also be wearing the Alfa at the Australian Open, along with apparel from Fila’s Collezione.
