French sporting goods retailer and manufacturer Decathlon continued its global growth in 2022. Despite an “unstable global economic and geopolitical context,” according to CEO Barbara Martin Coppola, turnover rose by 12 percent compared to 2021 to €15.4 billion. Online sales now account for 17 percent of the total turnover (after 21 percent growth in the previous year, thus slowing somewhat). With this result, Decathlon once again overtakes its competitor Intersport International, which reported sales of €13.7 billion in 2022. The French company’s total profit rose to €923 million (€913m in 2021).
The sports retailer plans to continue its digitalization this year and focus more on the circular economy. Second-hand sports goods, for example, are already on sale at Decathlon stores in 44 countries. The group now runs a total of 1,571 stores in 69 countries, 10 of which are franchises only, and employs around 105,000 people.
Most recently, Decathlon Germany reported record results for the last financial year, breaking the €1 billion sales mark.
