Decathlon UK reported a 5 percent drop in sales and a 2.5 percent sales decline on a same-store basis in 2023. The British arm of the French-based retailer experienced a full-year loss of £2 million (€2.37m) after investing £10 million (€11.8m) in transformation initiatives.

The results were also affected by difficult market dynamics, unpredictable weather that adversely impacted seasonal sports, and the closure of underperforming stores, said the company. The group shuttered six underperforming shops in the UK over the past two years. Full-year results, however, were said to be in line with expectations.

In 2023, Decathlon UK launched a new website, automated its warehouses, modernized strategic stores, and expanded its circular business model through rental and buy-back programs. It also strengthened its partnerships with Tesco, Argos, Asda, Debenhams, eBay and Next.
