JD.com, the Chinese supply chain technology and service provider, said sports and outdoor were two of six segments that posted double-digit sales growth in the second quarter ended June 30. During Q2, the group generated 5.4 percent revenue growth to 267.6 billion yuan renminbi (€40.0b). Service revenues rose 21.9 percent to RMB 41.6 billion (€6.2b), and the sales in the larger retail segment increased nearly 4 percent to RMB 241.5 billion (€34.3b) and generated a 36 percent gain in operating income to RMB 8.17 billion (€1.16b). Product revenues rose 2.9 percent. The second quarter operating income came in at RMB 3.8 billion against RMB 0.3 billion in the year-ago period. JD slashed its marketing spend in the period marked by pandemic-related lockdowns in major cities across China by 10 percent to RMB 9.5 billion (€1.4b). Attributable net income came in at RMB 4.4 billion versus RMB 0.8 billion. JD’s annual active customer account base rose 9.2 percent to 580.8 million for the 12 months ended June 30.
