Sport 2000 GmbH continues to grow in Germany. The factored purchasing volume and external sales of the affiliated partner companies in Germany gave Sport 2000 the best result in the company’s history in 2021. As a result, Sport 2000 defends the position it already held in 2019 as Germany’s largest retail alliance.
In 2021, Sport 2000’s centralized sales in Germany increased by 7.2 percent year-on-year to reach a new high of €1.04 billion, surpassing pre-Covid levels, which had already been strong. While centralized sales have increased, membership has remained relatively stable (974 retailers operating 1,527 stores). Growth was primarily driven by partners who were able to identify themselves as particularly strong sellers for the first time.
The German Sport 2000 retailers themselves can also look back on a successful year: Last year, the Sport 2000 partners generated external sales of €2.77 billion from sales of goods. Compared to the previous year, this represents an increase of 29 percent. The numbers also increased after the Outdoor Profi group was fully integrated into Sport 2000 Germany.
In terms of sales, the Outdoor segment, in particular, gained ground across all retail formats in 2021, with a solid plus of 14 percent in stationary retail. In e-commerce, Outdoor was the most apparent beneficiary of the Covid-19 pandemic, with gains up to 45 percent. Running built on the high level from 2020 (+25 percent year-on-year) with continued growth in 2021, now +12.4 percent. Among Snow Sports, ski touring and cross-country skis performed best at Sport 2000 retailers (+110 percent).
Sport 2000 GmbH, based in Mainhausen, Germany, and a licensee of the ANWR Group, operates as a “five-country organization” covering Switzerland, the Benelux countries and Germany. The Sport 2000 licensee will be led by a new management duo from May this year. The leadership position in the company’s home market came a year after Sport 2000 Austria took the lead in the Austrian market.
